This is a classic example of how a simple and convenient online solution can help save lives.

Many patients who suffer from a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) never make it to the hospital, and of those who get emergency surgery—only about half survive. Fortunately, at least 95% of these AAA’s can be successfully treated before they rupture with proper assessment and understanding.

Medicom Health Interactive created this first of it’s kind online calculator for a coalition of vascular associations to help patients learn their risk factors associated with AAA and determine if they qualify for free Medicare screening. The clear graphic visuals help patients effectively understand their risk and become well informed champions of AAA screening.

It’s an indispensable tool that has received avid endorsement from the Society of Vascular Surgery (SVS), the Society of Vascular Medicine (SVM), the American College of Preventive Medicine (ACPM), the Peripheral Vascular Surgery Society (PVSS), and the Society for Vascular Nursing (SVN). Its development was sponsored by a grant from Medtronic.
