American Heart Association
Go Red™ Heart CheckUpContrary to common opinion, heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States. In 2004, when cardiovascular disease was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women a year, it became apparent that women were not paying attention. In fact, many even dismissed it as an older man’s disease.” To dispel the myths and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women, the American Heart Association created Go Red For Women – a passionate, emotional, social initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health.
Since then, Medicom Health Interactive has created the highly effective Go Red Heart CheckUp - an online, interactive, personal heart disease risk assessment tool for women, which resides on the AHA website. The tool uses an algorithm derived from the Framingham Heart Study to show the 10-year risk of heart attack for women based on their answers to a questionnaire. Women are encouraged to print the assessment and bring it to their health care provider to develop a personal plan that matches their needs. Women can also find out if they are at increased risk for metabolic syndrome, a group of risk factors that greatly increases the chances of developing cardiovascular disease, including stroke and diabetes.
